Within her first year in the National Hot Rod Association, Peggy Llewellyn won the O'Reilly Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex – a national event. With that victory Llewellyn became the first African-American woman to win an NHRA POWERade event and her team won the Full Throttle Award. Llewellyn also made her way into the final four of the NHRA's Countdown to the Championship playoff series. Joined by fellow NHRA drivers Tony Pedregon and NHRA Vice President- Public Relations and Communications Jerry Archambeault, Llewellyn represented the NHRA at the 12th annual Urban Wheel Awards in which the association was named the Diversity in Motorsports Award winner. Off the track, Llewellyn signed on as the technical advisor for FourWinds/Adrenaline Entertainment's feature film “Seven Second Barrier,” the story of a racer’s desire to overcome her father’s tragic death by racing his bike and shooting for the world record he died chasing.
