Seimone Augustus/ Basketball

In August 2005, Seimone Augustus was a member of the USA World University Games team that captured gold with a perfect record. In December, Augustus became the fourth player in Louisiana State University (LSU) history to reach 2,000 career points. In March 2006, Augustus was named to the USA Basketball Senior National Team, and in April, Augustus finished the 2005-2006 season as the NCAA scoring leader (22.7ppg) and ended her collegiate career second in career points at LSU with 2,702 points. She was named Louisiana Player of the Year and National Player of the Year by the Associated Press, earned Kodak/Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America honors, and was named the winner of the Wade Trophy, Naismith Award and the Wooden awards as the nation's top player. Augustus was the first pick in the 2006 WNBA draft and was named as the WNBA player of the week on June 5, 2006. Also in June, Augustus was nominated for an ESPY for Best Female College Athlete, was named Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Year and winner of the Honda Award in basketball. In July, she was named to the WNBA Western Conference All-Star Team as a rookie, led the West in scoring (16 points) and won the WNBA Dribble, Dish and Swish Challenge.
