Stacey Nuveman

Three-time Softball Olympic Medalist

Stacey’s motto in life is “Think Big.” She spreads her message to everyone she meets and shows it in everything she does. I’ve seen her talk to kids during her clinics or at events; and she tells them about her childhood and how she got to be where she is today. But one of the best things about Stacey that I don’t think most people know, is that she has a great sense of humor. The last time I saw her speak, she talked about parents and how she is one now; how kids today have no idea what their parents went through for them…especially all the diapers. Then she asks the group, “How many of you drove yourself here? How many of you paid for your own ticket?” As you could imagine, very few raised their hand as most were under the age of 14. Stacey then says “I want each of you to go home tonight and make sure you say “Thank You” to your Mom and Dad.” She goes around the room and looks them all straight in the eye to make sure that they will do it later. The smile on the girls faces, not to mention the parents, as their eyes met Stacey’s was a great sight.

As you can see, Stacey might say to “Think Big” but she is someone that does the little things. Since I’ve met Stacey back in 2005 I’ve been a witness to it many times. Whether it’s getting an auction item, attending our golf and fundraising events, or just giving brainstorming with her. She even made a former Foundation staff member’s year by sending her a signed softball for her birthday. Stacey is a thoughtful and dedicated member of the Foundation family, and when the opportunity to become part of the Panel came along she jumped at the chance.
