The Women’s Sports Foundation
Deborah Slaner Larkin Advocacy Fund
Program Overview
The Women’s Sports Foundation exists to increase and enhance sports and fitness opportunities for girls and women. Within that context there is a constant concern and focus on the inequities that exist on all levels of sport. The Foundation utilizes many strategies to address gender equity in sport including educational materials, an Attorney Referral Service, an 800 confidential hotline for parents, athletes and the public, a congressional day to influence enforcement of Title IX and the Amateur Sports Act, and others.
Over the years, it has been challenging for the Foundation to acquire funding to address controversial issues in advocating for equal opportunity in sports. The purpose of the Deborah Slaner Larkin Advocacy Fund will be to provide resources for addressing gender equity, including efforts to insure that all schools and colleges are complying with Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972.
The Foundation uses the funds generated by the endowment to empower individuals and organizations to address gender equity issues through education and advocacy efforts. These initiatives will have an impact on government enforcement of gender equity laws, school and college compliance with Title IX and creating an educated public that understands the importance of gender equity in sports. The fund may not be used for lawsuits.
