This extraordinary black-tie event supports and honors champion female athletes who have attained the highest levels of success. The Foundation will pay tribute to these athletes on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York City. Film, television, stage and media celebrities will join in commemorating the outstanding achievements of these women. The Annual Salute is celebrating its 29th year!
This unique red-carpet event, which recognizes media excellence in women's sports and physical activity, is done with true L.A. style, bringing stars of screen, stage and “field” together for one night of celebration. Celebrity guests have included Sharon Stone, Geena Davis and Sharon Osbourne along with a very special performance by Sir Elton John in tribute to his dear friend Billie Jean King. This exquisite evening is held annually during the month of April at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 22nd Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day was February 6, 2008, with the theme of “All In!” National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) was established by a Congressional resolution in 1986 to celebrate the achievements of girls and women in sports. National Girls and Women in Sports Day is celebrated in all 50 states with community-based events, award ceremonies and other activities honoring the achievements of girls and women in sports. NGWSD was inspired by former Olympian Flo Hyman, who passed away suddenly in 1986.

This national campaign is a series of events that benefit the Foundation's GoGirlGo! initiative where girls learn fun activities and important life lessons helping them to create healthy lifestyles, build character and prevent diseases. Women, men and children, serious athletes or casual neighborhood walkers can take part in this annual event series, comprised of national marathons and relays. The Foundation relies on the support of our members and supporters to not only provide the necessary funds to continue our work but also grow our network of friends. Hosting an event such as a reception, walk-a-thon or golf outing is a great way to create awareness about the Women’s Sports Foundation among your friends and family and to educate the community about the importance of getting and keeping girls and women active.
